Looking for Journal Articles
To find articles on a specific topic...
Go to our Databases List and select a resource that will best suit your needs (for example CINAHL for Nursing and Allied Health Literature, COCHRANE for Evidence Based Practice, Dynamed for "point of care" info etc.) Descriptions of available databases are provided.
To see if the library owns specific journals...
Go to the library's Journals Search page - here you can search by title all the journals (electronic and print) owned by the Biomedical Library. Some Journals that the library only holds in print my have not yet made it into the Journal Search system. One can also search the Southcat Catalog for print (and some electronic) journals.
To find a known article online...
After finding the journal in which the article appears through the Journals Search (see above) click on the "Journal" link(s) directly below the title. Make sure the dates the journal covers include the year(s) in which the article for which you are looking was published. The Citation Linker also a useful tool for finding known articles if you have sufficient citation information (title, journal, author).
To order journal articles the library does not own...
Go to the Library's Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery department page, set up an account and order online. (USA faculty, staff, COM students, and CON/COAHP grad students can order up to 20 FREE articles per month; health sciences undergrad 10 particles per month). After the first 20 articles in a month's time, articles ARE $5.00 each. To contact our ILL department call: 251-460-6891.
To access print-only journals in the Biomedical Library's collection if you are a Distance Education student...
For journals in the library's collection not available online you can order a copy from our Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery dpartment (health sciences distance education students can order up to 20 FREE articles per month – in any combination with requests for journals we do not own.
